Read this article: Airbrush Principle and Construction to know how an airbrush works and what makes it work.
The beginner should choose only two models of airbrushes: models with a nozzle 0.3 mm or 0.5 mm.
- Airbrush with a 0.3 mm nozzle is universal; it allows drawing large strokes and fine details of the image.
- Most artists use an airbrush with a 0.5mm nozzle to apply background and trace areas of images that do not require high definition. It also allows you to make
Most painters use the airbrush for painting backgrounds and portions of images that do not require a high definition; it also allows you to make large-scale smooth transitions from one color to another (gradient). Such a tool helps interior designers quickly enough to depict what they have in mind on the walls of apartments, offices, shopping centers.
Double Action Airbrush
An airbrush must be of double action and internal mixing. Do not believe the advice that you should start with a single-action airbrush. There is nothing difficult in mastering a double-action airbrush. The sooner you get your hands on it, the faster you will learn how to use it.
The difference between a single-action and a double-action airbrush is described here. There you can also learn about the difference between inside and outside blending.
The different locations of the paint container on the airbrush should not make a difference when choosing your first airbrush. The location of the paint container does make sense, but in the first, the airbrush will not be decisive. Everyone will choose to his own taste.

Buying an Airbrush
Let’s move on to possible ways to purchase an airbrush. They can be sold in art stores and auto stores. Chinese airbrush guns, which can be purchased in Russian stores in a particular city, range from 450 rubles to 2.5 thousand rubles. A cheap airbrush, by definition, can not cope with its objectives; badly treated metal and the smallest burrs prevent quality spraying paint. To distinguish a relatively high-quality Chinese airbrush from a low-quality one, it is enough to hold them in your hands. Do not be “fooled” by various additional features (such as pressure and air control on the airbrush – Air control). I do not recommend buying all Chinese models over 2,000 rubles. In this case, it is better to wait for delivery time (if you live in remote regions of Russia) and buy a pretty good quality airbrush remotely over the Internet for such a price. Its price together with the delivery will be very acceptable. Nowadays, it is not a problem to make such an order even from a small village.
My First Airbrush
My first airbrush was from a Chinese company WuFu, its name became known to me only after the solvent eroded the rubber gaskets, and I started looking for parts. It was a JS-13 airbrush. It turned out that the manufacturer does not even produce spare parts separately from the airbrush. Even though it is made in China, it is a good quality airbrush, but if I knew that 647 solvent would eat away the rubber seals, I would have used it for a long time, using a weaker 646 solvent.
The drawback is that the airbrush needle is sealed with a rubber gasket, which does not work well over extended periods of time. Over time, you begin to feel that the needle, when pulling the trigger, hardly slips on this very gasket. And this has a bad effect on the quality of the drawing.
For budget models of quality airbrush guns, you can choose something by JAS. The airbrush needle is sealed with a Teflon gasket, which is nice. Ordering a model JAS 1113 can cost up to one thousand rubles, including shipping; delivery is by mail and can take 20-30 days. Of the disadvantages of such airbrushes: the same rubber nozzle gaskets. If you use the recommended solvents, the airbrush can serve you for a long time.
The advantages of ordering in this way are that quality airbrushes are available on eBay from the global brand Iwata (Japan) and other reputable companies. Such airbrushes are really made to save people from unnecessary problems encountered when using cheap Chinese models.
